515 years of religious life have been celebrated at Mount St Jospeh in Cork.
Brother Ray Dwyer marked his Silver Jubilee while Brothers Donatus Brazil, Denis Minehane , John Kelliher and Vincent Costin celebrated their Diamond Jubilees as Presentation Brothers. Two more Presentation Brothers, Cronan Loughrey and Michael McAuliffe celebrated their Platinum Jubilees of seventy years of religious life. In addition, the oldest Brother in the Congregation, Br Philip Giroux, in Canada is marking 75 years of religious life this year.
A Mass of Thanksgiving was offered in the chapel at the Presentation Brothers Generalate at Mount St Joseph, Blarney St and was followed by lunch at the Rochestown Park Hotel.
“This is an extraordinary day”, Br Martin Kenneally, Congregation Leader of the Presentation Brothers told the Jubilarians. “We mark with thanks and joy a combined total of over five hundred years of your service of people in Ireland, England, Canada, Slovakia, and the West Indies.”
“It’s been a day of great memories and also thanksgiving”, said Brother Ray Dwyer, who marked 25 years as a Presentation Brother. “For me, life as a Brother has been diverse and exciting. Since I made my first profession as a Brother in 1987 I’ve worked as a school chaplain at Coláiste Chríost Rí in Turner’s Cross and now at Presentation College in Bray, as a residential social worker in Cork city, as a missionary in the West Indies, and I’ve had the opportunity to do a Masters in Education on alcohol abuse among the young. So, it’s been a rich and rewarding quarter of a century. For any young man who is thinking about his future I’d recommend that he consider this way of life.”
