Christian Leadership in Education Office
The Christian Leadership in Education Office (CLEO) fosters and promotes leadership in Christian education by providing post-graduate courses, in partnership with the University of Hull, leading to the following qualifications:
(Information Sheet here)
- Advanced Certificate in Educational Studies
- Advanced Diploma in Educational Studies
- Masters in Education (MEd)
- Doctoral degree in Education, EdD
- PhD in Education
CLEO’s students are high achievers: Of 58 MEds conferred at Hull in January 2014, seven attained a Distinction (equivalnet to First Class Honours). Five of these were CLEO students.
Elaine Mahon, Editor-in-chief for Religious Education at Veritas, addresses the 2014 CLEO annual reunion on the theme, “Religious Education in Irish Catholic Schools: Challenges and Opportunities”.
CLEO was established in 1997 by Brother Matthew Feheney and, since then, over 250 teachers (primary and post-primary) have attained the Masters in Education (MEd) degree, 12 have been awarded the EdD, and 10 have graduated with a PhD.
In addition, 50 CLEO graduates have been appointed to the post of school principal after completing the CLEO programme, most of these generously acknowledging that the programme greatly assisted them towards appointment.
CLEO emphasizes the Roman Catholic tradition in its curriculum. It is a collaborative partner of the University of Hull, a well-regarded university boasting numerous awards, including Top Five in the UK for teaching quality and student satisfaction.
